Abstract/Citation
The Act, 2022 aims to implement the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea to combat piracy on the high seas. It defines piracy, prescribes severe punishments for committing, attempting, or organizing piracy, and grants powers of arrest and investigation to authorized personnel. The Act establishes Designated Courts for speedy trials and includes provisions for bail, extradition, and protection of actions taken in good faith. The Ministry of External Affairs is in charge of overseeing the Act.
