Foreign Interference (Countermeasures) Act 2021 (No. 28 of 2021)​
This Act aims to detect, prevent, and counter acts of foreign interference that threaten national security and political sovereignty. The Act targets covert and hostile information campaigns and politically significant activities directed by foreign principals, empowering authorities to investigate, impose countermeasures, and issue directives to online platforms, media outlets, and politically significant persons. It introduces offences, sanctions, and procedural safeguards, while enabling the Minister for Home Affairs to act decisively where foreign influence is suspected, subject to limited judicial review. This Act is structured as follows:
