The law aims to provide a structured and authoritative legal framework for regulating personal status matters—such as marriage, divorce, lineage, inheritance, and related family issues—based on the principles of the Ja‘fari school. By incorporating this codified body of jurisprudential rulings into the national legal system, the law seeks to recognize doctrinal plurality, enhance legal clarity, and ensure that the application of personal status rules for adherents of the Ja‘fari school is conducted in a consistent and organized manner within the broader framework of Iraqi personal status legislation.
