Second Region

Amends the Factories Act in respect of definitions and by making provisions for ventilation and lighting standards in factories, the safety of hoists and lifts, hazardous substances, the marking of containers, safety in the use of steam boilers and gas cylinders, notification of accidents and occupational diseases, medical examination, research and statistics relating to occupational health and safety, the establishment of a safety and health committee in factories employing 20 or more workers and of a National Advisory Committee on Occupational Health and Safety, and for other safety measures and procedures. Three new schedules are added, namely, a sixth schedule entitled "Manner of preparing a steam boiler for the examination, when it is cold", a seventh, entitled "Dangerous occurences" and an eighth, entitled "Prescribed occupational diseases".
