Abstract/Citation
A consise Labour Code consisting of 50 sections, whose stated objectives are to improve employment relationships, fully use workers' capabilities in social and economic development, increase the efficiency and productivity of society and improve workers' living standards (s.1). Provisions are made inter alia for the prohibition of forced labour (s.8), the role of trade unions (s.7), labour contracts (Chapter III), hours of work and rest (Chapter IV), the employment of women and young persons (Chapter VI), wages (Chapter VII), income tax and social insurance deductions (Chapter IX), occupational health and safety (Chapter X), employment injury and compensation (Chapter XI), pensions and bonuses (Chapter XII) and the settlement of labour disputes by arbitration or in court (Chapter XIII). The Code was promulgated by Presidential Decree dated 1990-12-24.
