Second Region

Section 104A of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1981 disqualifies a person engaged in course of study from receiving unemployment assistance other than in such circumstances and conditions as may be prescribed. These Regulations exempt from this disqualification a person who is - (a) a mature student as defined in the Local Authorities (Higher Education Grants) Act , 1968; (b) participating in one of the educational initiatives for the long-term unemployed such as Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme and the Third Level Allowance Scheme; or (c) participating in a course of education approved by a company established under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress.
