Second Region

An Order to Show Cause filed with an Immigration Judge initiates the proceedings. Apprehension, detention and arrest is possible under specific conditions. Detained foreigners are entitled to communication with his or her consular or diplomatic officers. Expressed fear of persecution or harm in case of deportation may cause a consideration of an application for asylum. Foreigners are entitled to be represented by legal counsel - certain free legal services are available.
