Regulations intended to implement in Great Britain Council Directive 86/188/EEC on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to noise at work. Regulations 4-5 require employers to make, review and keep records of, noise assessments. By Regulations 6 and 7, employers shall reduce the risk of damage to the hearing of employees from exposure to noise, and reduce exposure to noise. Regulations 8-10 provide for ear protectors, ear protection zones and for the use and maintenance of equipment. Regulation 11 obliges employers with respect to information, instruction and training to those employees likely to be exposed to specified noise levels. The duties imposed do not apply to the masters and crews of sea-going ships or to their employers, nor to the crews of aircraft or hovercraft.
